The telegrapgh (Samuel Morse's invention) and the advances in photography were both important to help turn the civil war into a modern war for two main reasons:
- During the Civil War, telegraphs were used for military purposes. They made communication quick, easier and more efficient.
- Advances in photography made it possible for photographers to cover the events and show the reality of the war to people home.
