Problem

Find the polar coordinates for the point (-8,6)..

Solution

For this case we need to find the radius given by:

[tex]r=\sqrt[]{(-8)^2+(6)^2}=10[/tex]

Now we can find the cosine of the angle on this way:

[tex]\cos \theta=-\frac{8}{10}=-0.8[/tex]

And the sine would be:

[tex]\sin \theta=\frac{6}{10}=0.6[/tex]

We can find the angle with this operation:

[tex]\theta=\cos ^{-1}(0.8)=36.87º[/tex]

And then our answer would be:

[tex]r=10,\theta=36.87º[/tex]
